How do we do it? Well, we believe in…

A Personalized Training Approach: Every dog is different, so we train each one in a way that works best for them. We focus on your dog’s specific behavior needs and goals to make sure the training really works and lasts.

Training is more than just teaching commands. Our board and train program helps with things like reactivity, aggression, and anxiety too. We work on your dog’s behavior as a whole so they can be calm, confident, and build a better bond with you.

Empowering you too, not just your dog. We give you updates during training and help you feel confident handling your dog at home. Even after the board and train program ends, you’ll have the support you need to keep things going strong.

Making the process easy, with pickup, drop-off, and flexible scheduling.

Lora at winnabow is the absolute best we just got our boy back and the progress was amazing! I was terrified as a dog mom and all the horror stories you see and hear but getting to talk to her, seeing videos of dogs she had trained on Facebook, and talking to previous customers I knew this was a perfect fit! Once we picked a date and I set up financing it was time for him to go to “school” as we called it! Lora came and picked him up and immediately he took to her was laying all over her loving her and this sold me so much more! Over the course of 3 weeks we got videos and pictures of him and got to see his progress! This was wonderful and anytime I was wondering how he was she was easily able to reach via text to see how he was! We had a little hiccup with some skin issues while he was there and she immediately let us know and we got stuff for it and she came a picked it up for him! She worked on confidence building, on and off lease training, recall, and so much more! My boy was in such good hands and had made such great progress! Lora is hands down the best and I will forever be using her with all our future dogs! If I could give her more than 5 stars I would!! Some pictures of our boy in training, graduation day, and prior to training!

Our Training Programs

Two puppies sleeping

Puppy Training

We teach basic commands, help with potty training, introduce things like a leash and a crate, and offer socialization to other environments and other four legged friends.  Our goal is to help your puppy grow into a happy, well-behaved dog.

Dog pulling on leash

On-Leash Training

Tired of your dog pulling on walks? Our on-leash training teaches your dog to walk calmly beside you without pulling, and your pup will also learn basic obedience while on the leash. We focus on good leash manners and helping your dog learn to listen, so walks become fun and stress-free.

Dog Running

Off-Leash Training

Want your dog to come when called, even without a leash? Our off-leash training helps your dog learn to follow commands, stay focused, and stay safe when off-leash. You’ll feel confident giving your dog more freedom while still staying in control.

Barking Dog

Reactivity Training

If your dog barks, lunges, or overreacts to other dogs or people, we can help. Our reactivity training is designed to lower fear, stress, and anxiety. We work to build your dog’s confidence and help them stay calm in everyday situations.

Dog

Aggression Management Training

If your dog shows aggressive behavior toward people or other animals, you see your pup guarding certain resources, or if you notice any behavior that is aggressive and leaves you feeling unsettled, we’ll work on it with care and experience. We can identify triggers and create a training plan to help change those behaviors. With time and guidance, your dog can learn to be more relaxed and in control.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where would my dog stay?
Your dog will stay in a home-based environment designed to mirror real-life living situations—not a kennel. This helps them feel comfortable and better adapt their training to everyday life. We intentionally limit the number of dogs in our program at any given time to ensure each one receives personalized attention and never feels overwhelmed.
  • Can I leave my dog with you while I travel?
Yes! While you're away, your dog will receive training and care at our facility. Please note: boarding is available exclusively for dogs who have previously completed a training program with Winnabow K9 Board & Train.
  • Do you offer financing?
We do. We believe every dog owner deserves to enjoy a well-behaved companion, and we’re happy to offer affordable financing options with low monthly rates to make training accessible.
  • Can you help if I’ve already started training my dog?
Absolutely. Some of our clients have laid a solid foundation with their dogs but hit a few roadblocks. We’re here to help you get past those challenges and bring out your dog’s full potential.
  • Do you provide private training?
We do not offer private training sessions at this time. Our training is conducted at our facility, where your dog will stay and learn in a structured, distraction-free environment. We can arrange a convenient pick-up. This helps us determine your dog's habits in its environment.
  • Can I visit my dog during training?
To help your dog adjust and focus, we typically recommend limiting visits. However, we’ll keep you updated with regular progress reports, videos, and photos.
  • Do you train all breeds and ages?
Yes! We work with all breeds and most age ranges. Whether you have a young puppy or an older dog, we can tailor our program to their stage in life and unique personality.
  • Will my dog remember me after being away for training?
Absolutely! Dogs have an excellent memory, especially when it comes to their people. When they return home, you’ll notice not only their improved behavior but also how happy they are to reunite with you.
  • What happens if I need help after training ends?
The training comes with lifetime assistance, so you can call/reach out if you ever get to a point where you feel stuck or unsure.
  • Will my dog listen to me after training with someone else?
Yes! A very important part of training is the part that includes you, the owner. We have a thorough lesson to train you after training your dog, so that you know how to maintain your dog's training moving forward. These lessons take several hours, on average.
  • Where did our name originate from?
Lora lived in Wilmington and the greater Wilmington area for 13 years. When she started Winnabow K9, she lived in Winnabow (yes, it's a place!). Life's unpredictable circumstances caused her to relocate closer to family, so while she is now a resident of Eastern NC, she held onto the name that gave her roots.
